LBT’s First Medical Cyclotron Project Achieves Over 5 Years of Stable Operation

2026-07-12
🔬 A milestone in long-term cyclotron application
LBT’s first medical cyclotron project, located at a medical institution in Sichuan Province, China, has achieved over five years of stable operation since it was completed in 2020 and officially started operation in 2021.
🏥The project adopts a managed operation model, with LBT providing technical support and operation services to build an integrated platform covering radionuclide production, radiopharmaceutical preparation, quality control, and clinical application support.
⚛️ Compact and efficient radiopharmaceutical production platform
The center covers approximately 160 m² and consists of four key areas:
🔹 Cyclotron room
🔹 Cyclotron control area
🔹 Radiopharmaceutical preparation area
🔹 Radiopharmaceutical quality control area
Through optimized design and workflow management, the entire center can be operated efficiently by only two staff members, responsible for radiopharmaceutical production and quality control respectively.
☢️ Reliable isotope production capability
The center is equipped with the LB-11MTS 11 MeV medical cyclotron system.
The system provides:
🔹 11 MeV proton energy
🔹 Up to 100 μA beam current capability
It supports the production of various medical isotopes, including:
🔹 F-18
🔹 C-11
🔹 Ga-68
🔹 Cu-64
🔹 Zr-89
🔹 I-124
providing flexible isotope supply capability for PET imaging and radiopharmaceutical research.
🧪 From isotope production to clinical application
The platform integrates radionuclide production, automated radiopharmaceutical synthesis, dispensing, and quality control.
Through synthesis hot cells, remote-controlled modules, and pharmaceutical-grade workflows, the center supports reliable radiopharmaceutical preparation and clinical PET applications.
🚀 More than 5 years of stable operation
After more than five years of continuous operation, this project demonstrates the reliability of LBT medical cyclotron solutions in supporting nuclear medicine development and radiopharmaceutical production.
LBT continues to empower healthcare institutions with advanced cyclotron technology and integrated nuclear medicine solutions.
